What is the Race Across America?
Insight Race Across America 2006
Oceanside to Atlantic City
Solo race start Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 9:00 AM local time
Team race start Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 2:00 PM local time
The Race Across America, or RAAM, has established
itself as a new and dramatic American tradition, respected worldwide for the sheer magnitude of its
challenge. RAAM is the most recognized and longest endurance annual cycling event in our world
today. Competitors must travel over 3,052 miles in 9 days to be competitive. They do so
by racing approximately 22 hours a day over mountains, across deserts and through the manifestation
of pain and doubt the likes of which are unparalleled in almost any other athletic endeavor on
earth. Required sleep stops will be implemented in 2006.
The starting time for RAAM 2006 team riders is Tuesday, June 13th at 2:00 p.m.
The race starts from the pier in Oceanside, CA. From Oceanside, the route traverses America,
crossing the Rocky Mountains, Midwestern states, and the hills of West Virginia before ending in
Atlantic City, N.J., 3,052 miles distant. The riders plan to arrive on the Atlantic City
Boardwalk in about seven days, on June 20th.
Chaffey alums and friends are invited to "line the road" to cheer on the
racers. You can check out the race route on the RAAM website and during the race, news and updates will be posted on this website.
West Coast alumni and supporters are invited to the pre-race banquet in Oceanside and to the starting line on race day
for a grand send off. The post-race banquet
in Atlantic City will be held at the Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk on the evening of June 21st.
