Race Day 7 - Almost there...

Monday, June 19, 2006

This is just a quick update before we run out of the motel and try to catch up with Team 2.  We raced across Ohio and into West Virginia.  Teams One and Two covered over 400 miles yesterday.  Team One arrived in Grafton, West Virginia 2 hours early, called Team 2 and got them out of bed.  Team 2 raced to catch Pete who was churning up the miles at 2am over the steep climbs of West Virginia.  Some of these hills are 9 miles long and have a 9 degree incline.  This is, in a way, more difficult than the Rockies. JoAnne, Pete's wife, joined us last night.  Finally we have a real boss to lead this crew the final leg of the race.

Ron continues to tell stories

Ron continues to tell stories about his kidney stone.  We decided we have many handicaps the younger riders do not have.  Kindey stones, bad hearing, etc.

Topographical map

The topographical map concerning the climb out of Grafton and heading for New Jersey.  We expect to arrive in Atlantic City, NJ about midnight to 2 am this morning (actually, Wednesday morning).  Finally we might even get a real meal.
